BROSIN – Brazilian Gum Rosin (WW)
BROSIN or Brazilian Gum Rosin is produced by heating and drying the sap extracted from yellow pine species in Brazil. The most common species of yellow pine in Brazil is known as “Pinus Elliottii”. This is the same as “Slash Pine” widely raised in the south eastern states of the United States. Gum rosin is produced in a highly controlled process involving distillation and extraction of turpentine. What remains after the separation of turpentine is gum rosin.
Applications of Brazilian gum rosin include production of depilatory wax, rosin powder for grip improving applications, rosin soap, rosin flux (soldering flux), rosin compounds, rosin sealants, rosin adhesives and hot melt glues.
Unique properties of Brazilian rosin are:
- Brittle and easier to grind or crush
- Higher reactivity, higher resin acids
- Generally lighter color
- Better solubility in Alcohols
